Hut building in the bush with young people
School holidays are sometimes not fun for kids from backgrounds that are a bit tough. Recently the Get Outside Program partnered with Clarence City Council Rokeby Community Centre to assist with their school holiday program to go bush.
18 young people aged below 14 , 4 youth works and Jodie Epper Program Coordinator had a walk in the Waterworks Reserve. We walked the Waterworks circuit track and the up to Gentle Annie falls. It was a beautiful morning and we were able to hear many birdcalls. A lot of the children had never been to the Waterworks before and made a point of saying, “ This was great fun” and “can we do this all day”.
“ It was a great time just hanging with young people in the bush and watching them relax and have fun” said Jodie Epper Get Outside program coordinator. “ The boys built huts out of tree branches and bark and all worked really well in a team – something the youth workers were very impressed with” she said.
A BBQ lunch was enjoyed and all the rubbish was picked up and taken off site. No photos of the activities can be shared but here are some images of the reserve.
