Our members assist the Rangers with a wide range of management activities including minor maintenance work on walking tracks and huts, mainly in the alpine areas of the Park.

Where we work
Mount Field National Park is close to one of the gateways to the South West and is about an hours drive from Hobart.
Back in 1916 Mount Field became, along with Freycinet Peninsula, the first national Park in Tasmania and this came about as a result of the efforts of a devoted band of admirers of this compact mountainous region. The scenic and botanical attraction of the Mount Field area touched people from the very earliest times and continues to do so today, giving the park quite an interesting history. Winter sports became very popular from the 1920s and are one of the reasons for the many huts in the alpine zone.
The mountains, sparkling tarns and lakes, flora and network of tracks makes Mount Field a popular walking destination throughout the year and never more so than when the spectacular colours of the Fagus are on display in the Autumn.
