Reducing Shortcuts
Mount Field Visitor Centre
Since the new path to Russell Falls was opened there has been a problem of visitors taking a shortcut by leaving the path and trampling areas that would otherwise regenerate. Screening plants have now been put in to attempt to halt this action. It has become much more of a problem at Mount Field over recent and areas soon become degraded and unsightly. Fencing does stop it but is not as aesthetically pleasing as a natural barrier.
The plantings were at two locations with the ground at one being quite hard, whilst the other was sandier and very easier to dig the holes. Some other tidy up tasks at sites along the path were also carried out.
