Chauncy Vale Open Day Oct 12th
Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary, was established in 1946 and is one of the oldest private conservation areas in Tasmania.
It was inspiration and home to Nan Chauncy – A multi award winning author of children’s adventure novels.
Chauncy Vale Wildcarers help to look after this special area by:
- Maintaining natural bushland and walking tracks;
- Maintaining the visitor precinct and associated infrastructure;
- Looking after ‘Day Dawn Cottage’ cultural site; and
- Managing the volunteer caretaker program
The land is managed by the Southern Midlands Council who say:
“The expertise of the Wildcare team is greatly valued at Chauncy Vale. Wildcare helps us to promote the natural, cultural and community values Chauncy Vale has to offer. We particularly appreciate access to the Wildcare supporter network in relation to running our Caretaker program”.

HIGHLIGHTS
Sally Bryant from the Tasmanian Land Conservancy will be running a session to interpret the rich diversity of bird life at Chauncy Vale.
Alex Green, Mayor of Southern Midlands Council, will officially open the Peter Bird Memorial Meeting Room at 11 am.
Lyons MP Brian Mitchell will be present.
Activities for children – Discovery Ranger Program run by Parks & Wildlife staff.
Join a guided walk to Browns Caves.
Day Dawn Cottage, former home of the Chauncy family, will be open for inspection.
Heather Chauncy will be present. Chauncy Vale was her childhood home – who better to hear from regarding this fabulous reserve.

Tea, coffee, drinks will be available
Bring a BBQ or picnic lunch
