Friends of Bruny Is Quarantine Station

A blue sky Tuesday August 4th encouraged keen volunteers to the Quarantine Peninsula on North Bruny to continue general restoration work and development of the new information centre for the Bruny Island Quarantine Station. The Information Centre is planned to be open for the 2015/16 summer season and will be housed in the old Plant Quarantine building. The 1970’s building is ideally suited as has a large internal display space. It will house an extensive collection of documents, plans, maps, pictures and artifacts relating to the amazing history of the Quarantine Station. Adjacent to the Information Centre will be a new visitor’s toilet facility and a large outdoor eating area. Many thanks are extended to Tasmanian Parks staff for their assistance with developments.

During the working bee, volunteer David was keen to wield his putty knife on the historic Cleansing Room built in 1884. Kathy and Jenny helped arrange copies of 1910 Site Plans on the stunning brand new cork display boards generously constructed by the Bruny Island Men’s Shed volunteers.
