Friends of Melaleuca celebrates opening of Deny King Heritage Museum
Friends of Melaleuca and guests gathered for the launching of the Deny King Heritage Museum on Friday 30 June. The displays had been installed at Melaleuca during the busy summer season, and at last with winter here we were able to celebrate the achievement. The event was held in Hobart in the Carnegie Gallery of the Maritime Museum of Tasmania to make it easier for the 150 guests to attend.
Heritage consultant Chris Tassell declared the museum “officially open, although the actual building is 112km southwest of us as the crow flies”. Guests viewed a ‘virtual museum’ in the form of a continuous presentation projected on a large white wall, and a DVD movie “walk through” filmed by David Neilson.

The Carnegie gallery was an ideal venue for the celebration. Thanks to the Maritime Museum of Tasmania for hosting our event. We appreciate the efforts of the many volunteers who helped with setting up and providing refreshments on the night.
