Get Outside School Holiday Walk
The school holidays are sometimes a hard time for young people – especially if you are new to the country and don’t have friends or know where to go to have fun. The Get outside program this January, in partnership with the Migrant Resource Centre organised an event especially for children new to Tasmania. The children were involved in planning the event. They chose the spot where they wanted to go and what day of the week they wanted to go on. The short walk to Lake Osborne was chosen. We walked along the Hartz Plateau, passed through forest and moorland to the picturesque glacial lake. Through the clouds was a distant view of the giant boulders known as the Devil’s Marbles. Up on the top the weather was wild and windy and the children enjoyed the craziness of it – luckily well dressed for the occasion. Due to the weather being quite wild we spent time in the day shelter and played lots of games. Thanks to Gail and the staff at MRC for all their help in making this trip happen.
