FROTHI’s 3rd annual Working Bee a success!
It was a spectacular few days on Three Hummock Island for our 3rd annual FROTHI working bee! We pulled as much Sea Spurge as we could and collected every bit of marine rubbish that crossed our paths as we made our way along those tremendous golden beaches of Three Hummock Island.
It was a fantastic effort by a wonderful group of Wildcare Volunteers, who spent hours upon hours pulling the notoriously stubborn weeds on hands and knees, elbow deep in scrub, climbing up and down precipitous dunes, dodging bull ants left and right, all in the name of invasive weed control and restoring precious habitat for the island’s vulnerable beach nesting birds!
It’s safe to say it was a splendid adventure for everyone. Made that much more so by great company, delicious food, and some spectacularly sunny days on the island after a bout of severe weather delayed the trip. Even the bumpy boat ride home and the sighting of a Shy Albatross left a memorable impression!
In their own words, this year’s FROTHI members welcomed the opportunity to give back and enjoyed “discovering the history of the island and meeting and working with a great bunch of like minded souls.” The adventurous group agreed, it was a “wonderful experience! Much more fun than lazing around at some fancy resort somewhere!” 😁
