Australia Wide Survey of Wildlife Carers
Bruce Englefield, a PhD student with the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney invites Tasmanian Wildlife Carers to participate in an Australia wide survey.
This is the first time carers have been asked on a national basis for their views on how they cope and feel, and how the pressures of time, finance and emotional input impact on them and their lives. Also it asks for the wildlife carers to give their views on what they think is the best for the animals they rear, when the time is reached for the animals to move on to release.
The findings will be published and maybe presented at the AWRC conference next year. Just click on this link to see the survey: https://redcap.sydney.edu.au/surveys/?s=NHTLWLKTRT
Included in the survey is a Participant Information Statement which explains more fully the research being undertaken.
As a former wildlife park owner and wildlife carer/rehabilitator himself, Bruce explains, “This is an opportunity for carers to give their views, experiences and knowledge to help produce a much fuller understanding of the work they do and the service they provide to the community and Australia. There is no national data on the number of animals they care for or the financial, physical or emotional cost to them in rescuing, rearing and releasing injured and orphaned wildlife.”
