Are you curious about conservation (and climate)?

Wildcare Tasmania supports people to care for Tassie’s wild places, wildlife and rich cultural heritage through collaborative on-ground action. We take action within social and environmental forces that at times seem daunting and we act with hope and optimism about the cumulative and sometimes catalytic impact of our work.

Our annual Expos enable the conversations and connections that underlie this action.

Some 120 people enjoyed our Northern Expo at Ulverstone last Saturday and the Southern Expo is being held this Saturday.

The threat that climate change poses to conservation management, including threatened species and protected places, is difficult and complex.

That’s why we’ve invited Alistair Hobday, Research Director & Senior Principal Research Scientist with CSIRO to open the Southern Wildcare Expo with an interactive presentation on Climate-effective management for threatened species and protected places.

WHAT ELSE WILL BE HAPPENING?

Led by a Discovery Ranger, the young and young at heart can become pollinators, making bees and collecting nectar at pollination stations.

All ages can try nature drawing with Georgie and visit over 15 ‘Exhibition Tables’ hosted by Wildcare Groups and our organisational partners.

A concurrent program will feature specialist talks from:

  • CSIRO – ‘Climate-effective management for threatened species and protected places’
  • Menzies Institute – ‘Vaccinating Devils against devil facial tumour disease’
  • Kingborough Council – ‘Managing pocket reserves in urban areas’
  • Aboriginal Land Council – ‘Wybalenna restoration project’
  • Friends of Orange-bellied Parrot – ‘Status of the Orange-bellied Parrot’
  • Birds Tasmania – ‘Birds of Maatsuyker Island’
  • Landcare Tas.- ‘Ecological Restoration Program’ and
  • Bonorong – ‘What to do if you find injured wildlife and how to check a pouch’.

The Kingborough Community Hub is a large family friendly venue with plenty of space to interact safely inside and outside, with an adjacent playground and cafe.
