Friends of Freycinet awarded TCF grant for a Friendly Beaches Viewing Platform
We have been successful in gaining a Tasmanian Community Fund grant to support the Freycinet National Park in building a viewing platform at the weather station lookout on Friendly Beaches. This is great news and will vary the range of activities we do in our working bees. It also makes a contribution to stopping erosion of the informal viewing that happens below the Weather Station at Friendly Beaches.
We have till November to have this built and it has been a joint application between Parks and the Friends of Freycinet.
On Thursday last, we had a planning meeting to visit the site and work out how and when this could be done. We found out that due to PWS staff commitments it has become necessary to change the date off our Ablaze In August working bee to the earlier dates of the 5th to the 9th of August.
The photos below show the site with the view and Nigel, Dave and Dom showing the levels of the platform.
It will be made from compacted gravel behind a 500mm sleeper wall, timber post and hand rails with a compacted path leading to the viewing area. There will be some bench seats built in conjunction with the Coles Bay Mens Shed placed at the site view.
It should be ready for the summer season giving better views and protecting these fragile dunes.
