I shifted to Taroona from Qld in January this year. We have been visiting Tassie since the 1970’s mostly to bushwalk and for family holidays. We did have the opportunity to live in Launceston for 5 years in the early 2000’s when we came to know many of Tassie’s beautiful places a bit better. Our son and his family (including a 6 year old marine science enthusiast!) shifted to Launceston a couple of years ago and I retired to be able to come and go more easily. My husband started a new job in Hobart at the end of last year.
Our family has a love of walking and gardening. I joined the Understorey Network at Glenorchy to help with plant propagation for conservation projects – they have just recommenced after several months break due to COVID. I also trained as a wildlife rescuer for Bonorong at the beginning of the year and have tried to help with rescues each week or so since then. I am also doing the Diploma of Sustainable Living through UTAS – enjoying the Backyard Biodiversity course at the moment. So I have a fairly broad interest in wildlife and the natural environment but no particular skills!
My previous careers have been in medicine, design and museum studies. Before I retired I was curator of the UQ Faculty of Medicine pathology museum.
I hope that I will be able to contribute in some practical way to the various groups that I have nominated as ones of special interest. I look forward to finding out more about what the groups do.
